Great Stuff
I've tried Hito's Homemade Toothpaste, Folks, and I've got to say that it's great stuff. It is much more effective than any other previously tried toothpaste. My teeth feel exceptionally clean without the weird mucous-ie experience that I usually get after using store-bought toothpastes. I typically need to drink a large glass of water after I brush my teeth, but in this case my mouth felt more moist afterwards.
I'll warn you, however, it's not the super-fluffy foamy feeling of conventional toothpastes. But I bet that it would be great for people who often have tooth pain due to lack of dental insurance. Sea Salt is known for it's ability to pull toxins out of wounds or small areas (as anyone who has had an infected splinter or a body piercing knows). It would be a great remedy if you have sore gums from popcorn eating.
As I said, it's strong, so if you find that your mouth is sore...perhaps use only 3 times per week, then slowly work up to more if you like. And don't worry....that seaside aftertaste goes away after about 25 seconds.
Thanks Hito!!

Healing Reaction or Caustic Toothpaste?
After using the stuff for a couple of days, my gums began to swell and they became very tender to the point of painful. I kept up with the homemade toothpaste for a couple more days, but I had to take a break. After not using it for two days, the pain and swelling dissipated completely.
I think I had this reaction because:
1. Too much too potent too coarse salt.
2. Possible too much tea tree oil
3. Introducing this potent toothpaste to my system too rapidly.

So I'll adjust the recipe to have less salt, and grind the salt more thoroughly with a mortar and pestle. I'll use a little less tea tree oil, but not much. I'll use the paste three times a week for a month or so and increase or adjust the recipe as necessary.

It is worth noting that my partner Heather did not have the same kind of reaction to the toothpaste, so I don't think it's an inherant problem with the recipe.

I got a pound of turmeric yesterday, so I'll introduce that to the recipe as well. The chlorella gives the paste a lovely color, and I hope the turmeric doesn't spoil that!

Thanks for reading. I'll update again with a new recipe. Use the current one with caution.

A unique shade of yellow
Turmeric toothpaste, that's a good idea.
Remarkably, I don't have any in the house! A travesty...

Why the vodka?
Tumeric is really good for the gums, and was it myrrh too? I had another friend who made a tooth powder reciepe. I've been using the ayurvedic toothpaste on the market lately. Mad props for being the motivated mad scientist that you are. I love you monkey-man.
